Our ornaments growing up were an eclectic collection of mostly store-bought ornaments. There are some that caught my childhood imagination, the stained glass angels. Basically a triangular body with a round head, they weren’t particulary attractive but I loved the effect the stained glass gave when seen with a light behind it.
There was one year when mom decided to sew up a bunch of ornaments and do a blue theme tree. Blue stuffed hearts with lace ruffle, blue stuffed birds and the like. This was back before theme trees were seen in the stores, so the rest of us didn’t take to it well, poor mom. That lasted one year, although some of the ornaments did get put back on our regular hodge-podge tree in the years following.
